THIS WEBSITE SHOULD BE OF INTEREST TO
ALL RESPONSIBLE RESIDENTS
IN THE MILTON KEYNES AREA
You can actively take part
in making your community a better and safer place
in which to live.
This website has been developed
to help to show you how,
and explain how important
it is that
you do.
This site is
not
here to ask you for money.
PARTICIPATION IS FREE!
And here are a few more reasons why
you should think about
Neighbourhood Watch:
-
Schemes are required throughout
Milton Keynes and the surrounding area to
help reduce crime and the fear of crime.
-
Schemes create community spirit and assist in the
care and safety of families, especially the young and the elderly.
-
Neighbourhood Watch
Schemes are known to be a deterrent to criminals.
-
Some insurance companies offer
Neighbourhood Watch
Members lower Home Insurance premiums.
-
Neighbourhoods used to be familiar and unchanging.
But now people move frequently, and places
change quickly. Everyone in Milton Keynes has heard
that expansion of the city is on its way. These days we
must work to build our areas into communities, changing
strangers into neighbours. Without this effort, the faster
the growth, the more opportunity for crime,
if we let it happen.

Who Are We And How Do We Operate?
A
Neighbourhood Watch
Scheme
is normally composed of about 10-12 households,
with one Member being a Co-ordinator.
All co-ordination for Milton Keynes and surrounding area
is organised by
THE WATCH OFFICE
at Thames Valley Police headquarters, Central Milton Keynes.
MK Neighbourhood Watch Association
has Members,
Scheme Co-ordinators, and Committee Members.
All are volunteers.
Members:
-
Receive messages regarding crime and its
prevention
and take
action.
-
Take care of themselves and their neighbours.
If they become aware of any crime, or any suspicious
activity which could be to the detriment of their community,
they should report it to the Police
(or Crimestoppers if they want to remain anonymous).
Scheme Co-ordinators:
-
Receive important messages
from the Police regarding recently committed
crimes, and relay these to Scheme Members.
-
Receive advice received from the
Police regarding crime prevention, and relay
it to Scheme members.
-
Support Scheme members with help and advice
on home and personal security.
The
Neighbourhood Watch
Committee:
-
Works in conjunction with Thames Valley Police
and other Social Organisations.
-
Offers help, advice and information regarding
how to make communities safer and takes action
to prevent crime and the fear of it.
Milton Keynes
Neighbourhood Watch
Association hosts an Annual Conference
for Co-ordinators, and yearly or twice-yearly meetings for Co-ordinators in
relation to their own particular areas.
